Civic Trees at Tate Modern!

When Vamp Concepts (www.vampconcepts.com) were organising a launch event at The Tate Modern art gallery they struck on the idea of filling the turbine hall with blossom laden cherry trees. Semi mature specimens were sourced at a major UK nursery but they still had to get the trees from the ground floor entrance to the floor of the turbine hall 30 feet below. They also needed to find a way of anchoring and stabilising the trees which would meet the venues strict health and safety requirements.

Civic Trees were called in to provide the answers to these and other questions that this unique combination of ambitious design and complicated space produced.

One of the major challenges facing the project was the timescale involved. The hall would be made available for the installation for just 12 hours overnight and only 8 hours were allowed for the removal of the trees, a huge lighting rig, video wall and stage set once the event had finished.
