Civic Trees have completed the planting of 168 semi-mature Tilia platyphyllos (Large-leaved Lime), 40/45cm girth, at a private estate in Kent. The trees, supplied by Dutch supplier Van den Berk, have been planted in blocks of eight trees on alternate sides of the 800m long driveway.
Civic Trees handled the trees as they arrived by artculated lorries from the nursery, placing them into a storage area before moving them out and planting in the pre-prepared pits. The trees were supported using underground guy wires and this is to be supplemented by overhead wires as the site is particularly exposed to winds from the south-west. Fresh topsoil was imported to improve the growing conditions around the tree and extensive drainage was put in place to avoid waterlogging in the tree pits.
The scheme called for detailed setting out to ensure that the trees were accurately planted at the correct distance from the edge of the drive.
The scheme was designed by renowned garden designer Arne Maynard and is part of a larger landscape regeneration project on the estate.
