New Driveway Avenue

As part of a major landscape regeneration project of a country estate in Kent, the renowned garden designer Arne Maynard (www.arne-maynard.com) had scoped a tree scheme for the estate’s 800m driveway. Civic Trees supplied 168 semi-mature (40/45cm girth) Tilia x euchlora (Caucasian Lime) which were chosen from the leading Dutch specialist Van den Berk and were planted in blocks of eight on alternate sides of the driveway.

Civic Trees co-ordinated deliveries with the nursery and handled the trees as they arrived on articulated lorries, placing them into a storage area before moving them out and planting them into pre-prepared pits. The trees were supported using underground guy wires attached to metal anchors which was supplemented by overhead wires to further stabilise the trees on this particularly exposed site.

Fresh topsoil was imported to improve the growing conditions around the tree and extensive drainage was put in place to avoid water logging in the tree pits. The scheme called for detailed setting out to ensure that the trees were accurately planted at the correct distance from the edge of the drive.
